Shared Budget and a Shared Vision

Nothing in life comes with out some sort of risk. This is also the case when it comes to budgeting and getting out of Debt. If you are not on the same page as your family then this will be the hardest thing that you have ever done.

First things first, tell all of your family what it is that "we" need to do to achieve the goal. It could be getting out of debt or saving for a vacation. For a change in behavior there has got to be buy in from everyone.

My family is all on board for getting out of debt and we have paid of literally thousands of dollars in debt but we still have a ways to go. It gets a little harder when the amounts are larger, like a car loan, it takes allot longer to blast these of your balance sheet but it will happen just be patient.

I saw these guys on youtube today and it kinda sums up how difficult it is to do this with a family at home.

The Dave Ramsey Budget meeting gets real!!!!!

If you know how hard it is going in you will be able to do the most good.
I did not say it would be easy just worth it!

How did we get here?

As all fathers know sometimes it can be hard just making ends meet, juggling work, the kids, the projects and the honey dos can be quite over whelming. But no fear we are in this together. I will be sharing my experience with all of the for mentioned items and throwing in some satire along the way.

About my Situation
I am in my early thirty's and both me and my wife are currently working. I have two step children, two toddlers and an infant (four girls and one boy). Yep 7 people living under a modest roof. My wife and I are currently paying off all of the debt we brought with us into the marriage and some that we have accrued since. Our family has been working on this get out of debt project for just over two years now (we started in January of 2010).

The get out of Debt Tools

There are a few tools out there that can help with your decision making and are tools that we have used. It mostly about staying motivated even when things go wrong. You might go through life with no speed bumps along the way however there are always the lurking problems that hit just at the worst possible time. If you plan ahead you can make these things much less stressful on your entire family.

  • Anything On the Dave Ramsey website can clear up your thoughts about money and is a program we are currently working on. Its a good place to start.
  • Also try checking out your place of worship many of the churches have a great wealth of information just to get you headed done the right path. For example the LDS Faith has a great website with a few good tools for making sound plans to get out of debt.
  • We even went as far to purchase the transforming debt into wealth system for John Cummuta.

Spoiler alert! All three of these tools take you in the right direction. And lets just say free is always welcome when you are trying to get out of debt.
